"Embrace the Light"

Find your voice. Write your story. Define your style.

It’s been said that skilled photographers are artists who light with a paintbrush. They are writers who narrate their own visual story. They define their personal style. They are in control of the way their images look and feel. They do this by knowing how to see the light, to manipulate it, and use it to their advantage. Lighting is a crucial part of photography. Sculpting with it is an art form.

Join Kristy Steeves, a Master Photographer, as she shares her unique approach on embracing the light to create shape, form, shadows, texture, and mood. The placement of light, shaping of light, and ratios can all work in your favor. Kristy will demonstrate certain techniques, such as broad, short, split, profile, Rembrandt, and cross lighting, along with proper posing, to get beautifully sculpted images.

Light is your greatest tool. Come and create. Find your voice. Write your story. Define your style. Paint your masterpiece. Learning how to light is one of the greatest discoveries you can make as a photographer.

A little about Kristy!

Kristy Steeves graduated from Indiana University with a double major in journalism and political science. While in college she took two photojournalism classes and absolutely loved it. Despite her love for photography she pursued her goal of becoming a news reporter. She worked as a television journalist for 25 years. During that time she won four prestigious Emmy awards for her story telling, including news reports on a 9/11 rescue team at the World Trade Center, an in depth look at the dangerous lives of drug dealers and a police SWAT team drill competition. Her love of photography eventually lured her away from television. In 2009 Kristy made a life changing decision and switched careers. Now, instead of being in front of the camera, she is behind one.

Kristy is a Master Photographer and a Certified Professional Photographer. She specializes in studio portraits and weddings. In November 2016 Kristy won first place awards at the state competition in Ohio for having the highest scores in both the children and general portrait categories. In 2015 she won the J. Anthony Bill award for having the most outstanding portrait in the state of Ohio. She has been an Ohio Top 10 Photographer. Kristy has It’s All in The Details also been a Gold and Silver Medalist at the International Print Competition and Kodak Gallery award recipient at the Northeast District Competition.
